My Religion.
Alright. This is a topic that has always been quite sensitive with me. I joke about it quite a bit to my friends and always make fun of religious types. But sometimes, I just can’t hold my tongue.
I’m an ex-Jehovah’s Witness. I don’t mean that I don’t believe in all that anymore, but I don’t practice.
The issue is that everyone hates on JW’s for some really messed up reasons. Claiming they’re a cult, or that the priests believe themselves to be better than everyone else.
My experience as a JW was actually rather fulfilling. The people I met there, felt like family, I’ve never known anyone else to be kinder to a stranger.
But the thing I respect most… Is the fact that JW’s don’t accuse other religions of anything. Its actually one of the few things you’re taught.
My bible tutor, told me once that if you are strong enough in your faith, what everyone else does, and the evils of the world shouldn’t bother us, so there is no point complaining and pointing the finger.
But now I read crap about JW’s being evil, manipulative and all round bad people. And sometimes, it is true. We all have that black sheep. And the same is true for all religions. There is always a nut carrying out stupid shit in the name of his religion. But to attack one of the most peaceful religious organisations out there is just downright messed up.
Side-note. The door to door thing is an act of kindness, it is not forced on us, as it is with Mormons. JW’s believe they can save people this way, and they do it in their own spare time.
